After two days of extreme temperatures reaching 40 degrees in some parts of Navarra, the thermometers have plummeted this Thursday with a cool spell leaving some areas in the North of the region experiencing a 20 degree fall in 24 hours.

Local government meteorological stations recorded falls in temperature of at least 10 degrees across the board in Navarra. Pamplona sweltered at lunchtime on Wednesday with highs of 34ºC. Midday on Thursday, and an almost chilly 20.5ºC has been recorded.

Navarra was put on yellow alert for extremely high temperatures this week, as well as thirty-six other provinces in Spain. Córdoba, Huelva, Jaén y Sevilla were put on Orange alert indicating an “important risk” whilst they baked in temperatures of 40ºC or more.

Despite Spain enjoying the heat, much of Europe has seen a wet and cold summer so far, with alerts not for high temperatures but for flooding, 60mph winds and even a May snowfall in the U.K.

The outlook here in Navarra is somewhat damper for Friday with Northerly winds and some cloudy patches that may deliver some rain. But don’t despair, blue skies and sun are once again forecast for next week.
