Although the LED countdown above Kukuxumusu on Calle Estafeta gives us a definite notion of how long is left before San Fermín, there are other much more tangible clues to be seen around the town in the months preceding July’s mega-fiesta.  The most obvious of these is the slow and steady appearance of the wooden fencing following the route the bulls take on each morning of the ten days.

Workers have travelled to Pamplona from Puenta la Reina, home of Aldaz Brothers Carpenters, to start putting up the wooden fencing that will be familiar to anyone who has been in the city during the festival.

Residents in the area have been notified to ensure that their cars are not trapped in by the work taking place, and the construction has been planned so that the most disruptive aspects for local people are not carried out until the end.

The wooden fencing is put in place to ensure spectators a safe position from which to view the bull runs, while keeping the bulls on the desired path which will eventually take them into the bullring after going through Calle Estafeta.

In total, the job requires 900 hundred posts and 2,800 wooden boards to ensure the security of onlookers.

The Hermanos Aldaz carpenters have carried out the work for the last 22 years, and will have 80 workers on hand to assemble and disassemble the fencing on a daily basis during the fiesta.
