This Sunday almost 2,000 people will put on their trainers to run a 5km race around the centre of Pamplona. Organised by Navarra's breast cancer foundation SARAY and the Urbanitas Wellnes Centre, it's Pamplona’s first race in the fight against breast cancer.

The race will start at 11am with a 5 kilometre route that passes through the heart of the city. It starts and finishes at Antonuiti Park. Miguel Crespo is one of the owners of Urbanitas Wellnes Centre and has been actively involved in organising this event from the beginning. As he says, it is not a professional race so anybody can take part, “We want it to be a party, so it is open to women, men, children, roller-skaters... everybody! The route is circular, so if someone feels they can’t continue, they can leave and go back to Antonuiti Park”.

Miguel noticed how this issue was something people felt passionate about at the centre so a few months ago he decided to contact SARAY, “We got in touch with SARAY and they suggested that we could do the race in association with the International Breast Cancer Awareness Week”.

“We want it to be a party, so it is open to women, men, children, roller-skaters... everybody!

The registration fee is 5 euros per person, which is donated entirely to SARAY (bar one euro for insurance). This money will contribute to ground breaking breast cancer research and empower women to live with this disease. “Unfortunately, the cuts are affecting the research. Cancer can be prevented. We want to mobilise women and girls, and create awareness about breast cancer and women's health”, says Miguel.

After the race, SARAY will give a speech and at midday a free Zumba master class will be held at Antonuiti Park. There will be inflatables and a ludoteca sponsored by Kaiku with activities for children. There will be food stalls and information points about breast cancer awareness. “We are very happy with the participation so we aim to repeat it again next year. We hope this will be a memorable day on the calendar and a big party”, finishes Miguel. Find out more here.
