The Arga river lies across Pamplona. It offers everybody a natural trail to walk along whilst inside the city at any time of year.

Choosing a trail around Pamplona is easy. Walking inside the city is even closer and easier…

One of the green lungs Pamplona has is just there, lying all across the city. The Arga river offers a convenient path along the shore (north bank) for everybody, even people with disabilities. Most of the trail is nicely concreted. Park the car at the Runa parking lot and approach the green area that is close to it and right by the river.

On choosing the left side (eastwards), it will lead you to the Pamplona orchards and Burlada. In this direction are parks for children, dogs, and others where adults and seniors can stretch and exercise.

Going back to the Runa park, you may choose to follow the trail bearing to the right (westwards). This will take you to the neighbourhood of San Jorge and it ends at Barañáin. It is a very shady trail and a little more urban, but as nice as the other side.

Along the Arga there are beautiful trees: alders, ashes, sloes, willows amongst others and all standing on all year green grass areas. There are also a few historical bridges that cross the river: San Pedro bridge, La Magdalena bridge, La Rochapea bridge, Santa Engracia bridge and more, as you follow the medieval wall that surrounds the old city.

Finally, this trail offers benches not only for sitting and resting, which are convenient for children, seniors, disabled people and sports people who want to stretch, but also just for taking a break and contemplating the beauty around. Observe the river, the ducks, a significant variety of birds and the multicolored fallen leaves. This is a chance to use all five senses just to experience the scent of nature, at any time on a regular day.

Pamplona is surrounded by a vast natural environment, but let’s not forget about the green lungs inside the city. Ana Lozano from the Navarra News journalism workshop takes us on a tour around the city.
